When the time came to go home, we hopped into the vehicle and off we went. Our ride home was uneventful, aside from some noises, which we couldn't identify. Once home, we soon found ourselves tucked into bed. The Mindy-Kitty wasn't the least bit sleepy though - she seemed quite concerned about some visiting cats suddenly appearing on both the front and back porch, and she was busy keeping an eye on them. Including attempting to fight them through the windows. Rob went to check to try see exactly what the cat was up to, and as he walked by door to the garage, he heard some pitiful meowing from what was most definitely a kitten.
That pique my interest and Rob was quite sure that we had had a hitchhiker on the ride home. We had only visited for an hour, so the kitten had climbed up into the warm areas of the car for a little nap. Poor critter had the ride of his (or her) life as a result! Thankfully the kitten could hang tight and arrived safely at our house. We then realized the noises we'd heard on the way home were the kitten attempting to tell us about his existence and presence!
Since we were not sure how adventurous the cat would be, nor if it was injured, we opted to go into the garage from outside rather than through the house. We didn't want to risk the kitten coming into our house. When we opened the garage door, no kitten came running, so we locked ourselves into the garage with the kitten, and found him perched under the pickup. Poor little thing! Unharmed, but rather frightened!
The kitten was not any more eager to get close to us than he had been at his home, so there was no danger of him running into the house. So we ventured indoors to get some cat food and the cat carrier. Since the kitten was so timid, I did not think I would be able to catch the kitten by myself in the morning, so we wanted to put him in the carrier over night.
First, we let him eat, and he ate voraciously. Unless I tried to touch him, then he scurried out of reach, but came back very quickly when the danger appeared over.
Of course, taking time for a quick bath mid-meal too!
Since the kitten was so interested in the food, I thought I would try to encourage him to walk into the carrier without having to catch him. Silly kitty, this was only too easy! I put the food in, and he walked straight in! He didn't know about such things as confined spaces. We added some water and a little litter box and left him for the night.
Then, this morning, I brought him home. Of course, Rob had to bid the kitten a fond farewell!
His sibling was a little kinder with the reunion!
And that, my friends, is the tale of the stowaway kitten. I'm thankful the critter survived the ride home. And it sure is a cute kitten!

Cute stuff, Karen. You were like a hotel, right?
Oh yes, a very fine cat hotel. I just question the method the kitten chose to travel TO our hotel! :)
