Winnipeg - Part 2

On the Tuesday, Rob and I went out for the day, to see some of the sights in Winnipeg.  We went downtown to The Forks, where the Red River and Assiniboine River meet.  The water levels were still very high, after the flooding throughout other parts of Manitoba earlier in the  year.

There are some riverside walkways but they were flooded.

We liked the signage indicating the walkways were closed.  Just a little sign, not a barricade in sight.  In Ontario, there would be barricade upon barricade in a situation like this.

Although the red tape is very easy to cross, it seemed like they had more security around a hole dug for construction than for the flooded areas.

Later in the day, we went to the Royal Canadian Mint.  We weren't allowed to take pictures on the tour though.  The Mint in Winnipeg produces all the coinage used in regular circulation.  The Mint in Ottawa makes special coins and other special things, such as the medals for the Olympics, for example.

That evening we went out for dinner with Rich & Cher and had a thoroughly enjoyable time!
