Winnipeg - Part 3 and the Trip Home

Wednesday was our last day with Rich and Cher.   We spent part of the day unloading the trailer, cleaning the trailer, and cramming everything into the vehicle.  Our plan was to drop the trailer off at Rob's parents on our way home, so we wanted it ready for that.

The rest of the day we spent hanging out with the family.  For supper we went to a nearby park and had campfire.

Then it was back to the house, and at bedtime, it was time to say goodbye.  But we are planning to spend a week at Rock Lake Lodge yet this summer, so we knew we'd see each other again quite soon.

Thursday morning we awoke very early and were on the road shortly after 4:30, and hopefully everyone was still sleeping when we left.  We had a long day of driving planned, including a time change that would make us lose an hour, so we had wanted to leave early.  We hit our first road block just after 6:00, when we arrived at the border.  The border was closed!  I panicked for a minute, wondering if I was so out of touch with current events that we could no longer cross into the States.  Then we noticed the fine print on the sign - open from 8am - 10pm.  Well, at least we could go through the USA.  Since it was just after 6:00 and there was another border crossing not that far away, we decided to try it.  It was on a more major roadway and more likely to be open.  It was and we were on our way.  This detour cost us about an hour, but that was still less time than if we'd sat and waited until 8:00.

The rest of the drive went smoothly, and we stopped only for gas and bathroom breaks.  We arrived at our hotel at about 7:30 pm, and promptly turned our clocks ahead, so now it was 8:30.  We went out for dinner, almost too tired to eat but we did need to eat.  The next morning we were on the road again around 7:30 and reached Rob's parent's home mid afternoon.  A quick visit, unhooked the trailer and we were back on the road, and home by 6:00.  We had a wonderful holiday, but it was so good to be home!

Our trip home took about 23 hours, including gas and bathroom stops (but not the stop at Mom & Dad's).  We drove 4907.9 km on the entire trip.  I didn't add up the driving time on our journey out to Winnipeg so I don't know how many hours of driving that was.

All in all, it was a great vacation and we're thankful we had the opportunity to do so.  Thankful that we could see more of this great province/country we live in, thankful for the time we had together as husband and wife, thankful for the time we could spend with Rich & Cher, Luke, Laura, Caleb, Corin & Yvetta, thankful for sparing mercies on the road, and there's so much more.

Thanks for following along!
