Well, hello everyone! I had really dropped off the face of the blogosphere, eh? I'm back today, though, with a post, and I have no plans to abandon the blog permanently.
A week ago Wednesday was a very good day for Rob and I. It was my first day back to work, in 2011. Although I can't say that in itself made the day good, it did provide opportunity for one of the surprises.
As I was working, Rob MSN'd me and asked me to call home. Of course, this made me very curious so immediately I did so. Rob had just received a letter from his employer, a very nice letter, and then another piece of paper was also included. (We took that other piece of paper to the bank. :) ) It was a wonderful surprise, and Rob is really thankful (me too) that his efforts are valued, and we're thankful for this job that God has provided. A rewarding job, and enjoyable for Rob - both are such a blessing!
But the main reason why (this is Rob writing now, just this paragraph) I am eager to share this, and ask you to join us with thankfulness for God's provision, is because of the intangible value and significance of the first letter towers high above the tangibility of the second piece of paper. I worked hard over the first five of seven years since 2004, but went through some difficult, frustrating years. But with my current employer in the last few years, things have been going well, and I was thankful to receive a letter officially acknowledging my efforts.
As the same day went on, I (this is Karen again) realized that it had been about two weeks since I had chosen my Service Award for 10 years of service at BBH. Rob and I talked about that on MSN too, and then a little while later he told me that a huge box had just been dropped off on the front porch! Then, just after that, I was given the certificate for my Years of Service award, by my manager.
When I came home, I could unpackage my big box. It was a very large box. All unpackaged, here's the gift and the certificates.
For the service award, there were quite a few things I could choose from, but nothing really jumped out at me. So, in the end I chose this serving set. The bowls and platter are genuine china from Germany. The little stand is not so genuine, and is made in China. There was a receipt in the box, and although the price had been blacked out, I could still read it - it was worth over $150!
Hard to believe that I've been working at BBH for 10 years! Well, I guess about 3.75 years were with Intellitech, before the BBH acquisition, but that time is counted towards my 10 years of service at BBH. It was a good start to our working year!
