SOLD!!

Rob and I have long been discussing moving, and the list of cities/towns/villages that we have considered is long.  We can name at least 16!  Over the last few weeks, with much discussion, thought, and prayer, we decided to move to P.  We really were serious this time.  Serious enough to have a consultation with a mortgage specialist.  Serious enough to actually write down MLS numbers for homes that looked like they matched what we wanted to find in our new home.  Serious enough to phone our real estate agent, Jane, and make an appointment to go visit 4 or 5 homes in P.

So it was, a couple Saturday's ago, February 27, we met Jane at the first house.  This house was empty, and had been repossessed by the bank.  We didn't stay long; it already had an offer on it, it backed on to a truck lot, and it didn't have the main floor living space we were looking for.  Off to the next house.

Prior to visiting it, this one I had pegged as my "favourite".  :)  Probably a dangerous thing to do, but from the MLS listing it looked like it had rooms/layout that would work for us, and the price was below what we had decided we were willing to spend.  We spent a long time in that house, and probably we each separately had come to the conclusion that we would pursue it.  Later.  Then we went to the next two houses.  They were both more expensive, but the one we probably could have made an offer within our price range.  They were lovely homes too, but there was nothing in them that appealed to us like the first house, and certainly nothing that made us want to pay $15000 extra for them.  They were worth the extra $15000 (extra bathrooms or bedrooms or walkout basements or whatever), but not for us.  So we went home, to think about the house we really liked, and planned to get back to Jane on Monday, after having decided whether or not to put in an offer.  Rob actually said on the way back home that he was ready to put in an offer already; I was a little more hesitant, and wanted to wait a day or two.
Fast-forward a couple hours - Jane called.  Another offer was coming in on that house, so if we wanted it, we had to decide fast and act fast.   It was crazy.  But the long and short of it is, our offer was accepted and we had bought another house!

We had just bought another house!!!  When we woke up on that Saturday morning, we had no idea we would buy a house that day - that had never really occurred to me.  Yeah, we were going to look at houses, but we were in no hurry to buy, and while I thought it possible that we would buy one of the houses we looked at, I didn't expect it to be the same day!

It all just went so fast, that you scarcely have time to think about it.  This is a big decision we made, but at the time, I didn't feel like we were making a huge decision, but we were just doing things, and in the end, big decisions had been made.

We're very excited about our new home.  Our new home is a bungalow, with a partially finished basement.  On the main floor there is the kitchen, a dining room, living room, master bedroom with ensuite, a second bedroom, and the main floor bath.  Downstairs there is a rec room, a bedroom, and a bath room.  There's also a partially finished laundry room, a utility room, and then a large room for storage --  A huge room, actually, and it already has some shelving.

Here's some pictures, which came off the MLS listing.

The dining room.  This is to the left of the front door, and we are going to use it as our family room/den/office.

The living room.

The kitchen.  When standing at the kitchen sink, you are looking into the living room.

The tub in the ensuite bath.

The rec room downstairs.

The basement bedroom.

There's a small covered patio outside the kitchen.

Here's a couple more pictures we took, when we drove past again, on another day.

Currently, there are no homes behind our new house, but they are building there, so I expect that this year new homes will go up behind us.

The lot is 55x101, so that's a big step up from our current 23x98.  It is also a single-detached home, compared to our link-style home now, so we will be able to walk around our entire house. :)

The closing date is May 28. Moving date is still to be determined.
