Our house was listed last Monday/Tuesday. Our agent phone Tuesday, scheduling our first showing for Thursday afternoon. Our house wasn't even on MLS yet and a showing was scheduled! He phoned again on Wednesday, to arrange another showing, also for Thursday. One was at 4:00, one was at 6:00.
I popped in at home on Thursday between the two showings, to make sure everything still looked good, and to check on the Mindy-Kitty. She is a bad little beast, so I wanted to make sure she was still indoors, even though I had put little sticky notes by all the doors requesting that the visitors please not let the cat out.
We did not hear anything after the two showings on Thursday, but on Friday afternoon, there was another phone call to schedule a showing for a third interested party for that evening. Oh, and the FOR SALE sign finally showed up on our front yard on Friday too.
Saturday morning, Rob and I were finishing brunch when the phone rang. The couple from Friday's showing wanted to come back -- in an hour. We scurried to clean up and vacuumed again, and left. Thankfully my parents live very near by, so we went there. Washed our cars. Enjoyed the beautiful sunshine. At about 4:30, the cell phone rang. Our agent! An offer was coming in! We met him at his office to review the offer, and it was a good offer. We made a few changes, and counter-offered. One of the things we changed was the closing date. The original offer said May 20, but seeing as we don't get our new house until May 28, that wouldn't work very well. Assuming the buyers were renters, we changed the closing date to June 11, and headed home, expecting a confirmation call from our agent later that evening, to indicate the offer was accepted. Not quite so simple. We weren't even home yet, when the cell phone rang again. Our counter-offer had been accepted but the closing dates were going to be a problem. The buyers had already sold their home and needed to be out by May 25. Clare advised that we try to get in contact with Jane, to see if we could make changes to the closing date on our new house. Eventually we did talk to Jane, but contact with our sellers could not be made, as they are out of the province. While waiting for Jane to call back, we discussed various options for 3 days of homelessness. We made sure we'd at least have a place to sleep (thanks Mom & Dad), and decided to go ahead with the offer anyways - it is a good offer, and there's lots of options for dealing with our stuff.
So, pending the removal of the conditions of financing and home inspection, our house is sold! Things will finalize on March 12.
We will still try to contact our sellers, and move the closing date on our new house, and avoid a period of homelessness. If we can't, well, we'll figure something out!
We are just so thankful to have (almost) sold our house so fast! Such a blessing! Not only did we learn very quickly that house selling is really not that much fun, but it seems that God is confirming our decision to buy the new house in the first place. It is our prayer that we may use our new home for His glory, and to be a light for Him in our new community.
