Welcome Winter...or not...

Winter has arrived with a vengence!  Or winter weather, at least, since technically winter doesn't begin until December 21.  Driving the last couple days hasn't been fun, and that howling wind!  Flannel seem even cosier when that wind is howling!

When I was putting out Christmas decorations recently, I decided to do things a little differently this year, and that left the windowsill empty.  On Monday evening, I was out running some errands.  There's an establishment in town that, as an advertising feature, as one of those rotating light beams pointing high into the sky.  I was curious as to the source of them, so I decided to track them down on Monday, and ended up in a parking lot. :)  It was an old indoor roller skating rink that had recently been converted into a store.  Signs outside the building indicated that one could find "cheap thrills" inside...I really wasn't sure this was the kind of store I wanted to go in to...a careful drive past the door showed lots of Christmas stuff inside, so I decided it was safe enough to enter!   The place is a liquidation store of some sort, and it was the typical collection of junk and a few neat things, and generally good prices.  One of the things I found was a set of "Christmas words", and seeing them, my bare windowsill immediately came to mind.  Their definition of "Christmas words" are  "Welcome Winter", "Tis the Season" and "Santa is Real".  (Not really my definition, but I won't get into that now :) ).  For now, I just have "Welcome Winter" gracing our windowsill.  I won't ever be using the "Santa" word, but I can probably come up with some other phrases.  In fact, I can probably create new words, since each letter is hinged together.  I'm stuck with starting and ending my words with the same letters as at present though, since there's only hinges on one side of those letters...

So, I announced a welcome to winter in our home on Monday, and on Wednesday winter showed up outside!   It isn't my favourite season...every year the cold seems colder, but Rob's favourite season is winter, so a welcome to winter in our home is indeed fitting!

(Rob and I are also having some 100th post giveaway fun on this post...check it out if you haven't already!)

Cute! I like them! Who knew that cheap thrills + parking lot = Christmas decorations? :)
