The Gate and the Gravel

Now that our fence is finished, work is progressing on the remainder of our backyard.

First came the gate. Rob had asked Dad A. to come help build the fence, but seeing as the fence guy kindly finished that himself, they built a gate instead. It rained off and on that day, so some of the construction took place in the garage.

The finished product from inside the backyard.

After the gate, Rob tackled replacing the remaining grass between our house and our neighbours. We had filled in about 2/3 of this area with gravel a couple years ago, but now with the fence, and the gate, plans to remove every blade of grass from inside the backyard, and the quality of the grass itself, we decided it was time to fill the entire area in with gravel.

Here's a BEFORE picture:

Of course, the fact that my parents had a pile of gravel much larger than what they knew what to do with helped us decide to fill in the rest of the area with gravel as well.

This is that pile AFTER Rob took three trailer-loads out of it.

The first load Rob picked up this past Saturday, in the rain. It was too wet to dig out the remaining grass/weeds, but not too wet to haul gravel, so the first load was picked up on that day.

Then, on the holiday Monday, we finished the job. Yes, I helped! :) A little bit, anyways. I have the all important job of laying down the landscapers cloth, to prevent (or minimize) the weeds that will poke through.

This is Dad & Mom D's trailer...the original colour really was green, and yes, that is the ground you can see through the holes, This trailer has served the family for many years, and in many ways, so no making fun of it! With the appropriate lining, Rob managed to get the gravel transported, and not littered between there and here!

Lisa snapped this shot of Rob filling the trailer...

And the end result...it looks so much better!

Next up, the remaining weed-lot inside the backyard...but that isn't done yet...
