When we were building our deck earlier this spring, our neighbour had one built too, and approached us about splitting the cost of a fence. We had planned to speak to him on the same subject, so agreed to his proposal. He had hired someone to build his deck & fence. It was in early June that we made this agreement, and our neighbour said the guy would come build the fence the week of June 23.
Well, the week of June 23 came and went, and no fence. An update that weekend from our neighbour informed us the fence would come on "Monday" (June 30). Somewhat not surprisingly, there was no fence to admire when we came home from work on that day.
Later in that week, on July 3rd, Rob was working from home, and he msn'd me that the guy had come to build the fence. I was quite excited, and most anxious to go home and see it. Needless to say, I was rather disappointed to see 1 whole posthole, and 2 half-dug postholes. The next day Rob worked from home again, and was able to inform me that the guy was back. I arrived home to see that we now had 4 post holes complete with posts! (As an aside, our neighbour is having a fence built on the other side of his property as well, 3 of those 4 posts were installed). We also chatted with our neighbour during those two days, and he indicated the guy would be back to finish the fence on the Saturday and/or Monday (July 5/7).
The fence guy hasn't been seen since. It has now been 3.5 weeks since the posts were put in. We've been duly admiring them (and our neighbours weeds!), but we're quite ready to admire a whole fence by now! Granted, we can cut him some slack - digging the post holes was no easy feat - he dug up this rock!
However, I still think that a day or two would have been sufficient time to recover!
We haven't seen our neighbour lately either, so we don't have any idea what the holdup is, or when we might expect the rest of our fence to arrive. We are planning to put in some perennials in the area of our yard not covered by deck, but we really wanted the fence to be complete first. Once the fence is there, we don't have to worry about the plants getting trampled during the fence construction, and it will be easier to layout the plants once the fence is there. At present, our planting plans are also on hold, although Rob has dug up what was left of the grass (it was mostly weeds too). The plain dirt actually looks better than the weeds did.
So, we continue to wait. We've long since given up rushing to look out the back window when we get home from work...
