Rock Lake Lodge

It was our privilege to spend the third week of September at Rock Lake Lodge near Bancroft. Most of Rob's family made it for some or all of the week!

The lodge is very picturesque, and an ideal location for families to spend time together. With the lodge and two smaller cottages, there's plenty of room. Maybe too much room, considering how many mice seemed to be sharing the place with us!

For the third week of September, the weather was amazing - I even went swimming twice! The water was pretty cold, but it made for an invigorating swim! The first few days were cooler, and the nights were very cool - down to 3 degrees one night. Rob and I were glad a woodstove had been put into the Woodpecker Cottage since we were last there.

Here's a few miscellaneous shots of the family.

Rob went for a bike ride and found a painted turtle. He brought it back for the kids to see and they all flocked around. Then they put the turtle into Rock Lake so he could find a new home.

One day, Dad, Mom, Rob and I went to "The Gut". This was a waterfall near Coe Hill. Getting there was somewhat of an adventure. There are no signs for it, so we asked for directions in Coe Hill, and the residents there were well acquainted with the place, so we received clear directions. But then it was quite the drive. Winding gravel roads for over 10 km! Well worth the trip - it was beautiful there!

On another day, Rob and I decided to go canoeing in the lake next door. The lake can be reached from the road just outside Rock Lake Lodge, so we decided to give it a try. This proved to be a dirty expedition. The "shore" of this lake was mud, deep, soft mud. Getting the canoe in the water was not easy. Rob was well over ankle-deep in the muck, but he made it, and managed to get in the canoe, and out into deep enough water to float.

Our first attempts to get the canoe out there left my shoes a little dirty too!

Rob made it!

I was still on the shore though, and I wasn't too keen to walk through the muck. However, a large tree was laying down quite far out into the water, so I carefully used that as a bridge to Rob, and also made it into the canoe.

We paddled around for a while and admired the scenery. The leaves were starting to change, in fact, I think there was more colour when we left than when we came. Such vibrant colours as well, and lots of red! Often we only see yellows and some oranges, but there was lots of red, and almost purple leaves in some places. The beautiful colours each fall are a marvel to me - and what a testimony of God's glory! He didn't have to make the leaves change colour before they fell off - but I'm thankful He did!

However, once we had finished our canoe ride, getting back to land was almost as big an adventure as getting in. I got out the same way I got in, via the big tree. Rob then paddled in to shore/mud as far as he could. Then he loaded me up with all the stuff from the canoe, so he could pull it in, and carry the canoe back to the lodge. Of course, the canoe was covered in mud - both inside and out - so this was another dirty challenge.

All in all, it was a great week, very relaxing, and enjoyable to spend time with family. Rob and I also went to Kingston for 1 1/2 days on our way home, I'll post about that when I find time.

I love seeing everyone's pics of our week there! This is such a neat way to share them. I'm glad you told about your adventures in the lake next door - I remember seeing you come back and wondering why you looked the way you did, but I forgot to ask........now I know the whole story :)
