Friday was another day of just driving, and we went further than initially planned. We had originally planned to stay at Sandbar Lake Provincial Park, but in looking at the map again on Thursday, we realized that wasn't very far from Kakabeka Falls and we could easily go further. So we did!
Along the way we saw more lakes and trees, and still some rock, but not quite as much.
We arrived at Rushing River Provincial Park mid-afternoon. Again we didn't have reservations, but we ended up with a beautiful site. Since this was a Friday and there was a line-up, we opted not to go drive around, but used the map to chose a site. If we disliked it enough, we could brave the line-up to go change it. But our site was awesome!
By the time we had set up, we were quite warm so we went for a swim off the rock on our site. There was a beach but we didn't go there being only there for one night.
Our last camping campfire...we burned up the last of our wood.
Friday night we went to bed with plans of getting up early and renting a canoe/kayak for a couple of hours. But when the alarm went off, we also heard the pitter-patter of rain on the roof of the trailer, so we opted to roll over and sleep for another hour or two. It was still raining off and on when we did get up, so we had to dodge the raindrops a bit as we prepared for the day and packed up. It was after lunch before we left - our latest departure of any day. But we were only about three hours away from Winnipeg!
Once we hit the road, it didn't take too long before we FINALLY left Ontario....and were welcomed into Manitoba!
The landscape changed then - it went flat. Very flat. And very green. We could see the skyline of Winnipeg long before we got there!
We found Rich and Cher's home without difficulty and arrived there late afternoon. We were warmly welcomed by everyone - it was so good to see them again! That night we just spent time with them all, visiting, chatting, catching up. On Sunday we had the privilege of worshipping with the Providence URC of Winnipeg. It was good to meet some of the people from that congregation, to see Rich & Cher and the kids in their church family and to hear the gospel message once again.
Thus, the first part of our vacation ended. We really enjoyed that week together, the driving, the camping. If we were to do something like this again, we would probably have more longer days of driving and stay two nights in each place instead of moving every day. However, it all worked out really well, and we were glad to arrive safe and sound in Winnipeg!
Next up, the second part of our vacation - time with the A. family, Winnipeg division.
