Road Trip to Winnipeg Part 2

On Monday morning (July 4), we packed up and left Restoule.  On our agenda for the day was a visit to the Nickel Mine in Sudbury.

Overlooking Sudbury, from the the Nickel Mine.

We went on the tour of the mine, meaning we had to don hardhats.

The mine used for tours is 65 feet deep.  Mining is still a big industry in Sudbury, but the mines used in Sudbury today are much deeper.
While we were deep in the mine, we set our laundry out to dry!  This is the first time I've brought a drying rack camping, but I'm so glad I did.  When packing up each morning, we would put the rack, clothes and all, in the back of the car, so it was ready to set up when we stopped.  Since we moved every day, hanging clotheslines would not have been very feasible.  Besides, doesn't everyone want to dry their bath towels in a random parking lot?

After touring the Nickel Mine, we drove a little further west and stayed at Chutes Provinical Park.  We didn't have a reservation, but we could go in and choose a site we liked and then come back to register.  The park was not very full at all, as expected, so there were lots of sites to choose from.

However, Chutes was where the mosquitoes launched their attack!  We stepped out of the car and were just bombarded.  It. was. not. fun.  The bugspray?  Buried in the trailer.  Thankfully, once we found and applied the bug spray, the mosquites left us alone.  That was the most intense bug attack on the whole trip, so we really can't complain.

There is a waterfall (the chutes) at the park, so we went to have a look.  It was quite pretty!

At Chutes we started noticing the days getting longer.  Every day the sun set a little bit later.

And that was the end of Monday.
