Favourite Things: Monday

The topic for today is your favourite thing about your car.  T'is an interesting thought.  I like my little car, I really do.  Nine years of faithful service from this car.  I wish I could remember what I named my car.  It would be oh-so-fitting to use my car's name in a post about it.  Sadly, I can't.  Lisa, my dear sister, perhaps you remember?

Anyways, I digress.  My car's name is clearly not my favourite thing about it, seeing as I can't even remember the name.  My little car doesn't have cruise control like Thelma's car, although there have been times when I've wished for cruise control, particularly back in Rob and my courtship days, when I was making 2 hour-on-the-400-series-highway-trips to see Rob every other weekend.  Yes, I've been driving this car for a long time.  About 9 years and 2 months, to be precise.  To be honest, I think regularly about what my next car might be.  Shhh.  Don't tell my little green car, since I think sometimes cars are sensitive about those kinds of things.

However, one of the reasons I chose the Protege in the first place, one of my favourite things about it, was that I really liked how it looked, particularly the back of the car.  I still like the appearance of the car, and it still cleans up very nicely.

Unfortunately, I don't have any more/better pictures. I missed Thelma's telepathic messages on Saturday that I should have washed and photographed my car. (Actually the real question is, even if I had caught Thelma's telepathic messages, would I have washed my car just so I could blog about it?)

I bought this car when I finished university.  A graduation present to myself, you might say.  I had a couple requirements for the car.  A/C.  That was number one.  Four doors.  I must have subconciously decided I wanted a smallish car, as I don't recall considering other types of vehicles.  As I observed all the other cars on the road, I decided I liked the looks of the Protege best.  So I went and bought one.  Believe it or not, that was my rationale.  I did visit a couple dealerships and test drove a couple different proteges.  I still remember when I drove this one, I came back to the lot and thought to myself "I just drove my new car!".  I was right!

So, I still like how it looks.  I also like the fact that my odometer reads this:

I think the car had about 60 or 70 kilometers on it when I picked it up.  So in the last 9+ years, the car has been driven over 230 000 km.   Of those 230 000km, I would estimate that I've been the driver for at least 220 000 of them.  Rob doesn't drive my car that often, and although we've traded cars with family for various reasons at various times, I don't think that very many kilometers would have been put on during those times.

So, that's my little green car.   And yes, little green car, I will get you an oil change very soon, and have that rattling noise you're making (again) examined (again)...
