Another Memo to Our Furnace

Re:  Furnace Motor

We are not sure whether to be flattered or frustrated.   Was the decision to have the furnace motor die this week due to the fact that you are upset that we are moving, or simply to remind us of the existence of our furnace?

The timing for said event really could have used some improvement.  How about prior to February 27, and the purchase of our new home?  Or how about after May 25, when the new owners will have possession of this house?  But no, you chose March 23, and incurred a bill of some hundreds of dollars for us.  Quite frankly, this was not appreciated!

Having said this, we do hope that you will treat the new owners more kindly, as we have now provided you with a new furnace fan, a new furnace motor just today, and we are diligently replacing your furnace filter every 2 or 3 months.

This is now your third written notice, and if weren't for the fact that we have sold this house, the outcome of your unauthorized behaviour may have been significantly different!

Thank you.

Last week, I started noticing that the furnace was making strange noises while heating our home.  The house was still being heated just fine, so we decided to just ignore the problem, for the time being.  We were away in S. this past weekend, and conveniently forgot about the problem.  Until we came home, that is.  The furnace noises were still there, and getting worse.  This morning, I called Pete, and he came this afternoon.  Upon his advice, we had turned off the furnace this morning.  I was a little worried that when Pete came the noises would be miraculously gone (for isn't that Murphy's Law?), but the furnace behaved abominably, and produced the noises instantly.  It took Pete about 2 seconds (or less) to determine that the furnace motor was shot, and would need to be replaced.  So now, a few hours later, we have a new furnace motor, and it runs nice and quietly.

We'd rather not spend money on a house that we've sold, but it is a bit early in the year to go without heat, and more to the point, we are obligated to leave the house for the new owners with a furnace known to be working.  It still is a little frustrating, however, thankfully, we are able to get it fixed.

I wonder if Andrew's new furnace is still working?  :)

Oh - we sure know that frustration! Remember when our air conditioning quit - just a week before we moved out? Aaaah! The guy came to fix it on the last day we had our old house and it needed to be completely replaced! We were so thankful when the new owners agreed to split the cost with us. So glad you guys sold - can't wait to see your new place - how exciting!
