Gratitude Friday - Thanksgiving Edition
Thanksgiving weekend! A ‘Gratitude Friday’ post doesn’t really cut it, for all that we have to be thankful for, as we celebrate Thanksgiving this weekend, but here goes anyways.
We are spending this weekend with Rob’s parents in S. and I’m very much looking forward to it! Rich & Cher will also be there for part of the weekend, and we are also really looking forward to a visit with the V. family on Saturday.
Thanksgiving weekend is also usually so very pretty with all the bright fall colours. Although we’ll be driving to S. after dark tonight, I’m thankful for the wonderful colours God gives us each fall – He didn’t have to make the leaves turn to such vibrant colours before falling off the trees!
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how we have progressed in our infertility journey in the last year or so. How God has been strengthening and enabling us, and giving us His peace. Sometimes I think I’m almost a different person from a year ago. This isn’t to say that we are ‘over’ infertility – the pain, the grief, the struggle will never go away this side of eternity. Just this week I’ve been in tears more than once over the pain of infertility, and the grief that comes with it. Yet just this week I’ve also revelled in the smiles from my nephews, and found joy in the love I have for them. Although a year ago I loved and was thankful for my nephew, this joy that I have now, I did not have a year ago. A joy that is now evidence of what God can and is doing in my heart. A joy for which I am so thankful.
Thanksgiving is a wonderful opportunity to reflect further on the multitude of blessings we receive each day, each week, each month. A roof over our heads, food in abundance on our tables. Sunshine. Rain. Vacations. Family. Friends. Worship each Sunday. Fellowship with brothers and sisters in Christ. Dentists. Doctors. Medications. Laughter. Time alone. Time with people. Telephones and MSN (especially now that Lisa is so far away). A good book. Anticipation. Hugs. Oh, the list could go on. How we ought to “Count your blessings, name them one by one, Count your blessings, see what God has done!”
Although Thanksgiving is a time when we tend to focus on the many, many, material and earth-centric gifts God has given and does give us, we should be no less thankful for the spiritual gifts He has given in Jesus Christ. This is not a holiday where we remember a particular event in the life of Christ, yet, if it were not for all of redemptive history and Jesus’ perfect sacrifice, what would we have and where would we be? Thank you LORD, for the perfect gift of Your Son.
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.” James 1:17
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Great post and great reminders! We really do have so much to be thankful for and yet it becomes easy to get caught up in our desires and our plans. Enjoy your thanksgiving weekend!
Thanks again for another reminder of God's blessings in our lives! In the every day moments of life, it is sometimes hard to remember to be thankful. I know that we are especially thankful this year for God's gift of forgiveness. What an awesome blessing when we consider who we are and what we have been redeemed from. Hope you have a great weekend with the A's.
