Today I am thankful for my dear husband and my dear father - they are both celebrating their birthday today! Yes indeed, I met and married a man who was born on my dad's birthday. I am so thankful for both of them in my life.
Happy Birthday Dad! I am so thankful for the father God has given me - thanks for all you do for me and for us, and for being a great Dad.
Happy Birthday, my dear Robert! I am also so thankful for the husband God has given me - marriage is a wonderful institution from our great God, and I praise God for you.
It was 6 years ago today that there was the great blackout - when the power was out throughout much of Ontario, some states and perhaps some other provinces. I well remember that day - the power went out at work mid afternoon. A long gathering around the "water-cooler" soon ensued, and many of us left early. I had an appointment for a haircut scheduled for that day, and eventually made it there...traffic was a disaster with all the stoplights being out. Despite the lack of electricity, I did get my hair cut, since it was just a simple cut I needed. Then I battled traffic again to go to Mom & Dad's to celebrate Dad's birthday. Rob and I were dating at the time, but as it was a weekday, I hadn't been able to schedule a trip to W. It was a very warm day, and I remember we had Dad's birthday party on the back deck, and being die-hard coffee drinkers, my parents used the Coleman stove to keep everyone's caffeine levels up! The hydro came back on at my house at about midnight that night, but it took a lot longer for some other areas. So, today, I'm thankful for electricity, and the conveniences it provides!
This reminds me of a sermon from Pastor V awhile ago, I believe it was on Proverbs 31, and Pastor V said women today may be inclined to say that the woman of that chapter had many servants to help her, so of course she could accomplish all that she did. However, Pastor V pointed out that neither the woman of Proverbs 31, nor her servants would have had any of the many electrical "servants" we have to help us today! Something to think about...
