Camping

Rob and I had an enjoyable two days at Turkey Point. The weather was about perfect. Sunny and warm but not too hot, and the nights were reasonably comfortable. I really enjoyed camping again - just being outside for 40 hours straight.

Turkey Point is a nice park. Our site was quite nice, perhaps a little less private than our preference, but a strategically placed tent helped that problem. We managed to get setup without too much trouble, even though it was dark. Much to our chagrin, we learned that our Coleman lantern is a propane lantern, and not a "Coleman fuel" lantern. We've had many of our camping supplies for a few years, but we've never camped by ourselves since we were married, so we have not used much of our camp stuff. For some reason, I had assumed our lantern used Coleman fuel, and was surprised to see that it required propane when we went to light it upon our arrival. However, we managed fine - car lights and flashlights do the trick, especially when the trailer goes up so easy! Thank you, Dad & Mom A, for letting us borrow your car and trailer, especially on such short notice. Really appreciate it.

We waited until Friday morning to setup our dining tent. We didn't need the tent, but we wanted to practice putting it up. It is not the easiest tent to setup, especially with only 2 people, but we did it - mostly due to Rob's perseverance.

A somewhat less than flattering photo of me - just leave me alone when I am reading! :)

Turkey Point seems to be a real "weekend" park. When we arrived Thursday night around 9:00, many of the sites around us were empty. Friday afternoon it started to fill up, and by bedtime I think all the sites were occupied and the campground was quite noisy. Rob and I went down to the beach around 10:00pm, you have to exit the park to get to the beach. When we came back, there were still park attendants at the gate, whereas the night before, there had not been attendants there, just at the registration office. We also saw the Park Rangers a lot more on Friday night too, watching out for trouble-makers. Thankfully, around 11:00, most campers turned off their radios, and we were able to sleep just fine.

Now we're home again, refreshed after some time away, and next week I start my part-time hours.
