On Saturday we went to an air show in the Niagara Falls area put on by the Russell Aviation Group. Their theme was "Friendly Foes over the Falls" and it featured planes from WWI, and especially WWII. There were American, British and German planes there. But more importantly, I had never seen a Spitfire fly, let alone sat in the cockpit. They had their own Spitfire, Hurricane, and Bf 109 fighters fly, all the predominant fighter aircraft of the critical 1940 Battle of Britain. I studied all about the BoB when I was a boy, and have always wanted to see these aircraft fly, and I got to see them fly all at the same time in the same formation!

Russell Aviation Group's Messerschmitt Bf 109E-4.

Russell Aviation Group's Supermarine Spitfire Mark IX.
Russell Aviation Groups' Hawker Hurricane.

This was a full-size wooden model Spitfire.

The Avro Lancaster Mk X of the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum.
A DC3, used by the Allied forces in World War II and during the Berlin airlift. This was also the first time we saw one of these fly.
There were also 4 Harvards, planes used to train pilots. These planes can leave smoke trails so two of them together created this heart in the sky.
We came home with sunburned noses, but had enjoyed the beautiful weather.
